Surface coating at RENK
Products from RENK must be able to withstand high permanent strain and extreme peak loads. RENK has many years of in-depth experience in the area of surface treatment for gear unit parts and drive components which are subject to exceptional conditions.
During the nitriding process, the surface layer of a material is enriched with nitrogen. The temperatures in this process are between 480 °C and 580 °C, and a surface hardness of up to 1,200 HV may be achieved depending on the material.
Generally, the longer the duration of the nitriding process, the greater the nitriding hardening depth (Nht), and the higher the temperature selected, the deeper the nitrogen is able to penetrate into the material with the same process duration. The effect of increased hardness is not obtained through the classic hardening process in the case of nitriding, but rather through the formation of iron nitrides and special nitrides in the surface layer of the workpiece.
