Main rotor gearbox test rig

Reliability is an absolute must in the aviation industry. This makes the use of technologically sophisticated test equipment one of the most important things during the development, approval, and series testing of safety-relevant components in the drive train.
RENK’s test rigs for main rotor gearboxes are designed for helicopters with coaxial or standard rotor systems. In addition to investigations into the reliability of gearboxes, efficiency, weight, noise emissions and long maintenance intervals are further focal points of current developments in RENK test systems.

Features

Due to the high power needed, the load on the gear unit test pieces is realized using mechanical or electrical closed-loop system.

Simulation of scenarios, ranging from single-turbine operation, up to a complete failure, to the stoppage of the failed drive.

Interchangeable pallets with various power ranges and dimensions make it possible to test a wide range of gear transmissions in just one test facility.

In particular, RENK has recently delivered customized test systems to  customers for the following types of helicopters: EH 101, NH-90, AB-139, Super Lynx, EC 522, Bell 205/206, A8 350, H-53 K, CH-47 F, AH-64 A-D, AH-64 E, UH-60, OH-58 D, KA-62, KA-52, KA-32, Mil-Mi 17.
